- The Forest Walk -
The Belgian artist Stanislas Warnie excelled especially as a watercolorist, which is impressively demonstrated by this painting of a summer forest landscape. On an imaginary walk, we pause at a stream surrounded by beech trees and listen to the gentle sound of the water, while the path leading up to the left draws our gaze into the diffuse depths of the forest.
The whole scene exudes the atmosphere of a forest bathed in summer light. The dark, moss-covered trunks of the beech trees gleam silvery in the sunlight, which refracts on the water of the trickling stream, creating a blurred reflection. The leaves, created with virtuoso color adjustments, range from very dark to light green, giving the forest a lively vibrato of vegetal vitality. The green seems to glow mysteriously and magically from within. As we look at it, we are absorbed by the atmosphere of the forest and become increasingly present in the image ourselves.
